TV and cable giant Comcast NBC Universal announced on Wednesday that they are opening a new startup accelerator at the Braves mixed use development project, Battery Park. The company has been supporting startups across the country in LIFT Labs for Entrepreneurs.

Comcast’s first dive into startup acceleration is in Philadelphia where the company is based. That facility, will be housed in the new Comcast Technology Center. LIFT is an acronym for “Leveraging Innovation For Tomorrow”.

The Farm Startup Accelerator is the second location for Comcast. The Farm will occupy space in part of Comcast’s new Central Division Headquarters at Battery Park.  Battery Park is a 60 acre development which includes SunTrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves.  Comcast’s internet services is providing the wifi and connectivity across the entire site, at the highest speeds available.

There are a variety of programs across Atlanta catering to their startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem. However there are still thousands of entrepreneurs being underserved.

Programs and facilities like the ATDC, Tech Village, Hypeotamus, and more offer incubation, acceleration and other resources for startups.

While Comcast has tapped Techstars as their acceleration partner in Philadelphia, the well known acceleration company already has a partnership in Atlanta with rival Cox Communications.   Boomtown will provide the curriculum and program management for The Farm. Boomtown is also based in Boulder Colorado.

“We could not ask for a better partner than Comcast NBCUniversal, and we could not have found a better home than metro Atlanta,” said Boomtown Executive Director Toby Krout. “This entire region has amazing entrepreneurs, a supportive and visionary community and government infrastructure, and a number of great support programs already in place. It is our goal to augment and complement this rich and diverse technology and startup community.”

This is Boomtown’s first location outside of Boulder Colorado.  The Farm will focus on mobility, connectivity, communications and other companies that may fit in the Comcast Universal wheel house.

“We are excited to launch a program that will add to Atlanta’s and Georgia’s reputation for attracting and supporting tech innovation and creating a world-class startup environment,” said Bill Connors, president of Comcast’s Central Division. “In the spirit of Ralph Roberts, an entrepreneur who founded Comcast as a small startup and shaped it into a global media and technology leader, The Farm will focus on the health and long-term success of the companies and the entrepreneurs who participate in the program.”
