The South East is heating up with startup action. Startup communities are mobilized and growing from Greenville South Carolina, to New Orleans, Atlanta, Jacksonville and even Opelika Alabama. But with all this startup action we’ve been waiting for Techstars to take notice and now they have in a big way.
Techstars has partnered with Cox Enterprises to “catalyze the startup ecosystem in Atlanta”. Techstars reported on their blog, Monday, that applications are now open for the newest Techstars program that will kick off in the summer of 2016.
“Techstars Atlanta’s theme is: Life’s most important connections are happening in new and exciting ways. Social media platforms, cloud-based data, predictive analytics and cyber security are thoroughly interwoven in our daily lives. The industries of tomorrow – telecommunications, mobility, transportation, healthcare, and financial services – will need to aggregate and share vast amounts of information in creative new ways.” David Brown wrote on the Techstars blog.
Atlanta’s startup scene has been growing over the past few years. Three years ago TechCrunch started holding events in Atlanta. Big startups like Yik Yak have been able to garner “valley money” with their technology, yes there are unicorns in the south.
Now, the startup ecosystem that has been highly supported by places like Hypeotamus, the Atlanta Tech Village, Techsquare Labs, and Opportunity Hub, can draw from the excitement and experience of Techstars.
Techstars Atlanta promises to select, recruit and accelerate the most innovative startups focused on technologies driving positive change in an interconnected world. The accelerator program is located at the Ponce City Market and will select 10 startups to participate in their 3 month accelerator program.
“Atlanta has an entrepreneurial ecosystem that continues to draw startups to our area,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “Cox Enterprises is Georgia’s largest private company and one of metropolitan Atlanta’s leading businesses. I am pleased Cox is investing in our city and region by supporting our start-up economy and creating an exciting, fast-paced culture of business and technology innovation.”
“Techstars believes that great entrepreneurs are everywhere and Atlanta is no exception,” said Techstars’ Co-Founder and Managing Partner David Brown. “With a dynamic startup community, Atlanta is a leader when it comes to innovation in the southern U.S. We are excited to partner with Cox Enterprises to rally the broader Atlanta business community around this powerful and fast-growing startup community.”
