There are a lot of coffee gadgets out there in the world today but none quite like Berlin from Bonaverde. The German startup has created the world’s first coffee system that makes your cup from the field fresh.

You thought when the coffee systems that included grinders came out you were getting a fresh cup, but what if you could roast the coffee in your home as well? That’s the Bonaverde difference. It starts with fresh coffee beans that you can purchase in ready to go pouches right from the company.

After selecting your beans you’ll use an RFid tag found on the coffee bean pouch itself. Scan that RFid tag and the Berlin knows exactly what kind of beans it is and how it should be roasted. Don’t worry though, if you’re into Ethiopian coffee beans on a lighter roast you can customize the roasting settings right on Bonaverde’s app. You’ll take the beans and dump them into the roasting tray as you can see in the video above. That’s when the magic starts.

In fact you can watch through the tray window as the beans spin around and get roasted to your liking. After about 5 to 7 minutes the beans are ready. You use the same pouch that the beans were delivered in as your coffee filter. The beans are cooled and the coffee is made. Voila in fifteen minutes or so you have a cup of coffee that is field fresh.

We spoke with Ricardo Mahlmann, Bonaverde’s Creative Director at CES who explained that you don’t need to order coffee beans directly from Bonaverde, if you have a hookup in South America you can customize the settings for the roaster and go to town (but who has a coffee bean hookup in Guatemala). For everyone else though, Bonaverde has about 10 bean selections in both the US and Europe and they’re continually adding more.

Watch the video above as Ricardo makes us the freshest cup of coffee that I’ve ever tasted. In fact I’m not much of a coffee drinker but the cup that came out of the machine was fresh and went down like tea not as harsh as store bought coffee. It was delicious.

You can head over to bonaverde.com to find out more or to purchase your own Berlin coffee system with 18% off until the end of January 2018 by using coupon code: CES 2018.
