We knew this day would come. We live at a time where some how, and in some way, everything gets connected. There seems to be a connected version of just about every home appliance from the refrigerator and washing machine to the toaster and the grill. We’ve been waiting for a while for the Internet of Things, the connected world, to branch out to the garage. Now, that time is here.
Canadian startup Robbox Inc has created a line of power tools and garden tools that the company calls “smart power tools”. Their tools are all controlled by a connected base that takes full advantage of a mobile app to deliver maximum performance on all of the tools it connects with. Users can use the Robbox robotic tool to complete any home or garden project. So far the company plans to release the following attachments:
- Hedge Trimmer
- Pressure Washer
- String Trimmer
- Car Jack
Robbox has other attachments in the works and is inviting developers to create their own attachments for the Robbox power tool series.
The base of the Robbox power tool features rechargeable batteries, a firm grip, an icon based interface and the ability to connect to the accompanying Robbox mobile application. The application uses data, AI, and other proprietary technology to ensure the tool and it’s attachments are delivering at optimum performance.
For instance, when you’re using a power screw driver/drill, you can never be sure how much torque you should give to the screw itself. The Robbox power tool figures that out automatically based on the project you’re working with and the hardware you are using. Have you ever worried about the different water pressure you get out of a pressure washer? You wouldn’t want to use the same pressure you use to wash the side of the house or the deck, on your car. Again, the Robbox power tool makes sure you never over do it and that you are always using the right tool at the right configuration. Basically, eliminating the guess work.
There’s also a huge cost savings with the Robbox system. You purchase the Robbox power tool one time and you’re open to a whole world of attachments. No need to be ten different tools, all with different batteries. Oh and you’ll never forget to charge your tools batteries again. Robbox’s app will let you know when it’s time to charge the batteries so you have enough power to do the next project.
