Jason Konesco spent the last twenty five years in higher education. His career took him through admissions departments and administrative offices providing him a unique perspective on student engagement and success.
After spending 6 years as the CEO of a private institution in Indianapolis he became driven to find ways to use technology to drive more student engagement and drive success. That’s why he and his team set out to create and develop ClearScholar, an app that does just that.
ClearScholar is a mobile engagement hub with a back engine designed to drive connection with students. With ClearScholar students find more ways to connect with one another and their university.
In addition to driving engagement and providing administrators with a deep dive look at their student body, ClearScholar also incorporates features designed for security and convenience. For instance their Student ID functionality serves as a mobile ID card to grant them access to areas on campus, allowing administrators to have a better look at who’s where and when. Their payment portal uses Apple Pay giving students the option to pay for things on campus like food, event tickets and merchandise, within the ClearScholar app.
ClearScholar also has an emergency notification function that can be used by faculty to update the entire student body in lockdown situations or to simply tell them that there is a delayed start or that classes, campus wide, are cancelled.
The apps interactive map feature gives students a view of campus buildings and the ability to find their classes, clubs, and events. A mobile polling function lets faculty, student organizations and student media the ability to poll students instantly on the things that matter to them most. The app also features a unified campus calendar as well as a personalized news feed.
The smart app maps student personas to content and opportunities within the college ecosystem. The backend puts a lot of emphasis on student perspective and student dynamics.
The ClearScholar app is supported by a robust back end that provides faculty and administration with valuable insights. A thorough dashboard gives administrators realtime access to important information like how many people are using the app, at any given moment and what features students are engaging with the most.
The app is proving to be very effective. It was first tested on Butler University’s campus as “The Butler App”, Konesca’s alma mater. In just 60 days with the new Butler App powered by ClearScholar, they found that more than 8x the student population was using the new app vs the old app. In fact in 60 days the new ClearScholar powered app had more engagement than the entire previous year under the new app.
