Cengage, the award winning higher ed e-books and digital learning solutions provider, will again go well beyond just pushing software at EDCAUSE next week. For two days as the exhibit hall opens at EDUCAUSE, the largest higher ed technology conference in the country, thousands of attendees will pick up stress balls, pens and the latest on some great educational companies.
If you stop by the Cengage booth, not only can you talk about Cengage and the latest updates to MindTap, Open Now and their other higher ed products, but you can take a load off, listen and participate in some great sessions that are affecting colleges and universities right now.
Wednesday November 1, 2017 11:30am
For starters, on Wednesday November 1 at 11:30am Cengage will host a discussion about those “alternative credentials” that are quickly rising in popularity. Now, a job candidate with a certificate from one of the major coding schools or business schools is almost as likely to get the same jobs that were reserved for students with four year degrees just a short time ago.
Four year colleges can no longer ignore places like the Full Stack Academy, General Assembly or Dev Bootcamp. In the discussion “Beyond Alternative Credentials: The Coming Disruption In Career Aligned, Post Secondary Education”, Lou Pugliese, Senior Innovation Fellow and Managing Director for the Action Lab at EdPlus, Arizona State University, and Jonathan Mott, Chief Learning Officer at Learning Objects Inc, will discuss the need for backward design and the right technological infrastructure to support modularized learning that yields marketable micro credentials.
Kicking off the Wednesday sessions, Cengage will host Nicole Kada a blind, 3rd year student at Wayne State University. Kada is one of the Cengage Student Ambassadors who will discuss how using MindTap has helped her stay caught up and exceed in college. Kada says that MindTap is like “magic” and that she no longer needs to rely on others to complete her homework.
Melissa Russell, Director of Content Strategy at Cengage, and Michele Bruno, Accessibility Program Director at Cengage will join Kada to discuss how Cengage is helping students across the country with accessibility.
Wednesday November 1, 2017 1:00pm
Finally, While we are far away from “free education”, cost is becoming a huge factor in higher education. Now more than ever the call for affordability in higher education is driving decision making at institutions everywhere. Many of the latest technologies are becoming cost prohibitive in today’s academic economy. Colleges and universities are looking for more ownership over their curriculum and they’re turning to open educational resources (OER).
In this talk, happening on Wednesday November 1 at 1:00pm, you’ll hear from George Miller, Senior Education Advisor at Cengage who also happens to be the former Congressman from California’s 7th and 11th district. He along with Cheryl Constantini will be addressing the need for OER resources and how Cengage is delivering curriculum-aligned OER based solutions to improve learning incomes and the academic economy.
