Earshot Is Improving Student Outcomes and Student Participation By Improving Teachers.
Are you a teacher? What if you had the ability to have a personal, private professional development session or teacher observation on demand? An edtech startup called Earshot is doing just that for teachers nationwide.
Earshot is where human intelligence meets artificial intelligence for teacher’s professional development, and it works on demand.
Earshot is an app that teachers can download on their own personal phone and then use to record themselves as they instruct. This audio recording then goes through voice analysis and machine learning via the app where it uncovers patterns in the behavior like:
- Wait time, how much time teachers are giving students to respond
- Talk/Time ratio, how long is the teacher talking vs. how long the student is talking
- Analysis of questions, are you as a teacher asking open ended questions to encourage student discussion
All of the great teachers out there know that better outcomes come from better professional development however in the world we are living in now it’s nearly impossible to find the time to get one on one coaching development with a teacher. That’s why Earshot is so great. Teachers can decide to do an Earshot session whenever they want. Maybe they want to make it a weekly ritual or perhaps they notice certain students are struggling. Earshot gives you a deep dive right into your instruction without the need for an extra person.
“I was calling on the same students over and over. The day after seeing my data with Earshot, I made a conscious effort to ask more open-ended questions and provide plenty of wait time…and the range of students who participated in class increased dramatically.” A high school math teacher in New Orleans says on the Earshot website.
