SXSW Startup: ARwall Is Creating Amazing AR Technology With No Green Screen Or Device Required
Augmented Reality (AR) is an amazing tool in the film and video industry as well as the tech industry. While we’re all soaking up the latest in AR with our smartphones, the technology has been around in tv and film for years. Augmented Reality can trace it’s roots back to green screens and special effects. As with just about everything, technology and innovation has made it better over the years.
Los Angeles startup ARwall draws on experience from both ends of the AR world, film and technology. With a diverse team that’s worked with each other or known each other over the last two decades, last year, they came together to create two uniquely different, but equally amazing, AR solutions. One is for film/tv/video the other for enterprise, business, amusement or marketing.
ARwall’s AR3D display (for enterprise, business, amusement and marketing) is the first of it’s kind display that requires no headset, no googles and no smart device. The use cases for a display like this are limitless. Brands could use the ARwall to create totally interactive and immersive display marketing in shopping malls, retail stores and other installations. Their display could be used for next generation amusements and video games. Their business is using technology and film making to create illusions and the world has shown it’s ready.
Their film tool draws directly from their experience in technology and the film business to use AR to supplement the need for a green screen or post VFX work to finish off the illusion. The tool creates an in camera composite, which can drastically reduce the work load on a film set.
” If you were shooting a scene on the bridge of the Enterprise or from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, we would be able to display all of the visuals outside the windows. In fact, our first client is one of the Big Six studios and we’re doing exactly this for their new science-fiction show.” ARwall CMO Eric Navarette told SXSW’s Hugh Forrest in an interview.
The world became enamored with Pokemon Go and the ability to move Ikea furniture, you haven’t even bought yet, throughout the rooms in your house using augmented reality. ARwall is drawing on AR’s roots to create mind blowing illusions, special effects, games and even next generation advertising.
