SXSW Startup: Rideshare Drivers Remove The Guess Work Out Of Finding Rides, With Gridwise
When ride sharing was first introduced, people thought the idea of getting into a stranger’s car was absolutely crazy. Fast forward a few years and ride sharing companies are putting taxi companies out of business. Uber has become one of those proprietary eponyms like Styrofoam or Kleenex. When was the last time you said you could take an Uber only to pull out your phone and hit the Lyft button?
With this nationwide rise in popularity for ride sharing, there are more and more drivers on the streets. Last month at CES there were 27 ride share cars parked outside the Las Vegas Convention Center and just 8 taxis. With all of these drivers, searching for rides, or the next hot spot for rides can be tricky.
Ridesharing has created an entire industry of technology companies designed to compliment ridesharing in one way or another. There are apps that allow drivers to sell snacks and sundries right from their cars. There are apps that tell riders what the rates are for each service from the exact spot they’re standing. And, there’s Gridwise, a Pittsburgh startup that’s helping drivers make more money.
Gridwise helps drivers optimize their time and make more money in a variety of ways. For starters, Gridwise knows what events are going on around you and what times they start and let out. This means that you can see where there will be a surge in riders. Sure it’s easy for a driver to find out the schedule for their local sports teams, or a big event like SXSW but what about each of the smaller events? What about other conferences in cities like Austin (disclaimer Austin just recently got the major ridesharing companies back). Having data about events going on around you and what times people are coming and going is valuable.
Are you tired of sitting at the airport all day waiting for that lucky ride going 40 miles away? Gridwise features Airport Demand Forecasts which show drivers the passenger volume of their local airport and how long the ride sharing queues are. Are there 8 flights coming in at 3pm but 34 at 3:30? This is important information to know.
Gridwise also offers real time alerts around all of their features. Say there was an airport closure in another city that affected several flights to your airport, when all of those passengers finally arrive it won’t be at the normal time. Gridwise is able to let drivers know when those customer surges are happening.
It’s not just about right now though. Gridwise can help drivers forecast their entire driving week. Drivers will know precisely where to go when they’re ready to sign on.
Gridwise takes the guess work out of trying to find that magic spot filled with riders ready to take a Lyft, or an Uber. Speaking of Lyft and Uber, Gridwise’s dashboard allows you to quickly access your driver apps straight from Gridwise. If you drive for multiple services this means that you can quickly pickup riders for whatever service is hottest at that time.
The company is constantly innovating and developing features to enhance the driving experience. Rideshare drivers using Gridwise are making an average of 39% more than drivers not using the free service.
Gridwise is a top 50 finalist in the 2018 SXSW Accelerator, find out more at SXSW Interactive, March 9-13th in Austin and online at gridwise.io.
