“I’ve personally noticed a change in France in the past few years, this current generation has a stronger entrepreneurial spirit and founders are thinking globally from the moment they start their companies,” said Christophe Daguet, head of French Tech Austin and Director of Strategy and Innovation at Dell. “French Tech Hub cities such as San Francisco, Tel Aviv and Shanghai are connecting all of the actors in their successful startup scenes to support their international startups. With Austin winning recognition as one of the best cities, if not the best city, in the U.S. to launch a tech startup, we likewise wanted to coordinate the tremendous resources and supporters in our Austin ecosystem to help French entrepreneurs who want to expand their businesses in the U.S.—and show them why Austin is a great choice to locate that U.S. office. In addition, we are promoting France as a land of opportunities for international entrepreneurs who want to start or expand a business in Europe. France has launched many programs and incentives to attract entrepreneurs. Americans, and Texas companies in particular, should take advantage of them to diversify and strengthen their business operations.”

The French Tech Breakfast will give attendees an overview of Austin’s ecosystem from Leigh Christie, who, as Senior VP of Global Technology and Innovation at the Austin Chamber, has her finger on the pulse of all things tech in Austin. Christophe Lavigne, an iconic and favorite mentor for French Tech Austin, grew his medical device company here in Austin and recently sold it for $1 billion. He now shares his insights and wisdom to help French entrepreneurs succeed in the U.S. In addition, French Tech Austin will highlight what’s great about France’s tech sector. French Tech Austin’s mentors will be around to answer questions about setting up U.S. operations in Austin.

Liz Wiley, an attorney and legal mentor for French Tech Austin and head of the French American Business Council of Austin, welcomes the overdue recognition for the advantages of international business investment in Austin and France.

“Texas and France have always had a special friendship as well as strong FDI numbers – although there is work still to do, Austin’s visibility in France has exploded in recent years, thanks in no small part to SXSW, Austin’s booming economy, and the sister-city relationship with Angers and Angers’ IoT and electronics expertise,” said Wiley. “Now with the ‘French Tech’ campaign, France’s talented and dynamic tech sector is getting the attention it well deserves here in the U.S. The match of these two great ecosystems, Austin and France, is cemented with France and UT-Austin establishing the Dr. Cécile Dewitt Morette France-UT Endowed Excellence Fund. The future is very bright, and the persons and companies who have invested for years in this Austin-France potential are well-positioned to see big returns.”
