Startups, Artisans, Musicians And More To Pack Larger WeDC House At SXSW

When most people think of Washington DC they think of the federal government, the President of the United States, Congress, marches and rallies.

Many didn’t know that our nation’s capital is home to one of the fastest growing startup ecosystems in the world. Thanks in part to efforts started by former DC Mayor Vincent Gray who led the torch for many of DC’s startup initiatives including the start of the WEDC house at South By Southwest. But if Gray carried a torch, current DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is carrying a flame-throwing blow torch.

Grassroots efforts, public private partnerships, DC government backed efforts and even Federal government backed programs all seem to be going through a growth spurt right now, and that includes the WEDC House at SXSW. In fact, this growth has led to the DC House moving from it’s previous location of four years, Blue (across from the Austin Convention Center) and just up the road to 709 East 6th Street in downtown Austin (the Easy Tiger Bakeshop and Beer Garden).

The DC House brings together DC culture, music, artisans, vendors and startups for two days of amazing events including a startup expo highlight some of the best startups in Washington DC. Check out our coverage of last year’s WEDC house here (we’ve got a lot).

This year’s highlights include:

  • Politico’s Playbook Panel
  • Tech & Innovation Round Tables
  • WEDC Celebration featuring live entertainment (last year’s included members of the WuTang Clan and DC Go-Go legends Rare Essence)
  • Interactive Installations
  • Daily Latte Art & Lounge

In addition to highlighting the best in tech, business, arts and culture the Washington DC Economic Partnership and the Executive Office Of The Mayor are showcasing why Washington DC is one of the fastest growing places for young professionals to live work and play. The crime ridden city of the 80’s and 90s has paved the way for a resurgence of the Washington DC that once rivaled New York City. Hundreds of amazing restaurants, foot trails, shopping, parks and resources surround the buildings that make America tick.

Get a sampling of the New DC at the New WEDC House in Austin, same awesome programming in a better location, 709 East 6th Street, Austin Texas, March 11th and 12th. Programming at the house runs from 11:00am-5:00pm both days. Find out more info and get your free admission to the house here at
