Carmelo Anthony Invests in SF Startup The Orange Chef Co.

Carmelo Anthony Startup

Here is something you don’t hear everyday, Carmelo Anthony just invested in a smart kitchenware startup. Anthony and his new Melo7 Tech Partners Venture Fund, invested an undisclosed amount of money in San Francisco based Orange Chef Co. The Orange Chef makes a bunch of really interesting health-based smart kitchen products, like the Prep Pad:

The Prep Pad is a smart food scale that works in tandem with a companion app to give users detailed health and nutrition facts. Further, the companion Countertop app can pair up with the Jawbone UP to offer nutritional guidance based on user activity:

Figuring out what to eat after workouts can be as exhausting as the exercise itself. Now with Prep Pad, and Jawbone UP, you get custom nutrition recommendations based on your activity levels.

This powerful insight lets you make the meal-time adjustments that your body needs most. If your plate lacks protein, Prep Pad will show you how much more you should add to reach the optimal balance.1

This is a pretty interesting approach to nutrition, one that seems perfect for professional athletes. It makes perfect sense that Carmelo Anthony would invest in such a product:

Anthony said as much in an official statement:

Nutrition is critical to my lifestyle…Whether it’s training in the off season or recovering after a game, I’m always trying to make sure my body gets the nutrition it needs to keep performing at a high level. Prep Pad makes it easier than ever to keep track of your diet in incredible detail, and learn where you may be falling short.2
