As eSports Continue To Go Mainstream, The Sacramento Kings, Get In The Game, Big.
It’s no secret that the Sacramento Kings and their Golden 1 Center are no stranger to technology and innovation. Led by King’s owner, Vivek Ranadive, the Golden 1 Center was developed as the most high tech, state of the art facility for basketball, entertainment and now e-sports.
All around, Ranadive has been amazingly supportive of technology and even startups. Earlier this year we reported on the Sacramento Kings second Capitalize startup contest which put startups center court to show off their technology. Ranadive has used up and coming technology startups to power some of the fan and facilities enhancements throughout the Golden 1 Center.
Last Thursday, The Kings, who are one of the 17 NBA franchises participating in the inaugural NBA 2K League, showed off their dedicated eSports facility, a venue within a venue.
Despite the fact that the Memphis Grizzlies are owned by Ubiquity networks Founder and President, Robert Pera, Golden 1 Center actually has the best network of any professional sports stadium in the country. Their internet, network and wifi would be capable of powering 17,000 homes, according to reports. Ubiquity is one of the largest commercial wifi networking companies in the world. After purchasing the Memphis Grizzlies in 2012 Pera’s company did an overhaul of the FedEx Forum to provide a better in-stadium networking experience for fans.
As for the Sacramento Kings, they debuted a first of it’s kind, dedicated, full stack eSports training facility and content studio. The facility will be used by the King’s NBA 2K League Team and future Kings’ gaming teams. It could become a true revenue generator if the Kings and Ranadive decide to start hosting eSports tournaments and big events at the facility. One of the biggest advantages is that all of the eSports gaming and content produced in the dedicated facility can be easily shared into the full arena bowl and shown on the NBA’s only 4K Ultra HD video screen.
“Golden 1 Center is the most advanced arena for basketball, entertainment and esports,” Ranadivé said in a statement. “This state-of-the-art facility will set a new standard and provide the best-in-class tools that the next generation of superstar gamers need to train, compete and win.”
In addition to the absolute top of the line eSports gaming systems and equipment the facility will include a lounge complete with special drinks and food designed to stimulate the brains performance. It will also include top of the line comfortable seating specifically meant for gamers. It even has a full dj booth ready for dj’s to come in and play music during events, even record music and play it back int he eSports facility or in the arena bow. Ranadive, the Sacramento Kings and the Golden 1 Center spared no expense to make this one of the best eSports gaming facilities in the world.
