What is Boon?

Boon’s platform makes it dead simple to find and refer contacts to the perfect job opportunity. Even better, Boon automatically tracks every referral, issuing a hefty payment to members responsible for each successful referral.

By creating a direct referral network for family, friends and associates to use, Boon aims to transform the way businesses engage with potential hires. Leveraging this referral network along with its intuitive platform design and drawing from his previous experience as a tech recruiter, Dakota is confident in Boon’s ability to dramatically reduce hiring costs while simultaneously improving the strength and longevity of each hire.

The warm fuzzy feelings don’t stop there. “BoonBack” is a feature within Boon that enables both businesses and users to donate small portions of their rewards to non-profit educational programs across the globe. Making Boon a veritable Dr. Seuss machine of positive vibes and good karma.

Is Boon aimed a particular industry?

Boon can really support/compliment any market however, we’re targeting the tech sector initially due to the high demand. Additionally, we feel that members of the tech community are quicker to pick up new technology.

What made you build Boon? What problem are you taking on?

Boon’s patent pending platform syncs and pulls from other social networks to create a profile for each user that adequately reflects their experience and background without having to request additional information from them to determine if they would be an appropriate fit for a position.

Additionally, users can refer opportunities to their network with as little as two clicks. Their user dash automatically tracks each referral sent out to alert the user if their referral was accepted or declined by the member they sent it to. If it was accepted, the system automatically forwards the member’s information/resume along to the company to be considered for the position.

Each user has a public ranking that shows the success rate of their referrals. The success rate is determined by how many members accept/decline their referral, how many company’s accept/decline their referrals, and how many hires they facilitate (among a few other factors).

What makes Boon different from other recruiting platforms?

Go in to Google and type “recruiting is broken” into the search and just see what comes up. Better yet, just say the first word that comes to mind when you hear the word “recruiting” or “recruiter”. Our guess is, it probably won’t be “glitter” or “yay”.

The point is, this is an problem that so many people are frustrated with. Whether your a job seeker, a business, or even a recruiter, you’ve likely looked up in the air at some point and thought (if not yelled) “WHY?!”

Major Competitors:
Linkedin, Hired, WhiteTruffle, Referral Key, Recruitifi, Dice, Jobvite, Entelo

Common Limitations:
Cater to an antiquated, labor intensive & cumbersome system
Budget and time draining
Limited scope, effectiveness and application,
The best talent rarely needs to look for a job, finding them primarily through personal and private referrals

Tell us your founding story. Was there an “ah ha” moment?

The inspiration for Boon came through Dakota’s experience as a technical recruiter where he was baffled by how deceivingly cumbersome it could be to help connect people with relevant and meaningful opportunities. Spurring him on further was the pervasive dissatisfaction for the process that was routinely expressed by job seekers as well as businesses.

Leveraging the network he had developed as a recruiter, Dakota began to work with job seekers, hiring managers, businesses owners and even other recruiters in order to gain insight into their unique perspectives and the different challenges faced by everyone. Using the input and feedback provided through this network, Dakota developed and tested potential solutions to the various challenges. The solutions that proved successful would eventually form the outline for Boon’s design.
