Maryland’s Startup Bus Goes Year Round

The Startup Maryland Bus Changes To Year Round Strategy

Startup-Maryland-Bus Maryland's Startup Bus Goes Year Round

Six years ago Mike Binko and Julie Lenzer Kirk decided to take it to the streets and the trenches of Maryland to “Pitch Across Maryland” in a bus. The journey lasted a month long and was held on the Maryland Startup Bus.

The Maryland Startup bus is a wrapped bus outfitted with a full video production studio in the back. As the Maryland Startup Bus makes stops across the state, entrepreneurs get on the bus and create pitch videos. In addition to having a professionally done video that startups can post on YouTube they are also entered into the “Pitch Across Maryland” startup competition.

The competition culminates with a stop in Annapolis, the state capital of Maryland. There, the startups will square off competition style and then round out the festivities in true Maryland fashion, with a crab feast.

As Binko continued to grow the Startup Bus initiative the name has changed, the stops have increased and now they’re going year round. Last summer the Maryland Startup Bus changed it’s name to Start1Up Road Show, named after the bus’s iconic license plate.

Last week the Start1Up Roadshow stopped at Johns Hopkins’ Homewood Campus for their Hatch Innovation Conference. The bus is currently in Salisbury Maryland at Salisbury University. Next week it will be at Hoopers Island Oyster Aquaculture Company.
