While many devices rely on low powered Bluetooth technology or WiFi there is still a huge need for modem devices that can be housed in other devices.

Tiny modems are the specialty for Minnesota based startup NimbleLink. The Minneapolis St.Paul Business Journal reports that NimbleLink’s tiny modems have a variety of uses. They can be used in monitoring devices and connected to sensors to let people know anything from the temperature at a work site to security applications. The use cases for NimbleLink are countless.

The company has 15 employees and has already raised $1 million dollars through a state program.

Now, Chicago based venture firm, First Analysis, has invested $2.5 million into the company who’s sales grew 100% year over year.

NimbleLink has started to see their modems added to drones which is another exciting space. This investment further suggests that the communication aspect of iOT is equally as important.
