This year the TFF saw more applications then they could ever imagine. In fact 3047 students have applied across 472 teams, from 1104 universities. That’s all across 129 different countries.

Students that applied ranged in age form 19-35 with the average age being 24. They had more people engaged this year than the previous three years combined. While previous years saw a majority of students with business backgrounds apply, this year the TFF saw more students with STEM backgrounds, specifically in Agriculture, Science and Engineering. Also 38% of the 3047 students that applied were women.

The 2017 contest will see more innovation across different areas of the food and agriculture spectrum. “There’s so much room for innovation and growth within the Food&Ag industry. It’s not only about the production, but also about data collected and stored by the consumer, food waste re-purposed and turned into a high nutrient substance, farming of the future and so many more.” The TFF said on their website.

The 10 categories that they are considering are:

  • New Food
  • Vertical Farming
  • Extension
  • Food Waste
  • Logistics
  • Policy
  • Big Data
  • Food Preservation
  • Fertilizer
  • Ag Tech

The summit is open to the public and in beautiful Amsterdam at the end of May. Tickets cost about $225 in US Dollars and can be purchased here.
