Baltimore Startup Profiles

Does This Startup Have Baltimore’s Next Big Thing?

Baltimore Maryland has had some global hits over the years. McCormick Spices, Colt 45 Malt Liquor, The Wire, Phillips Seafood and Under Armor were all proudly created in Baltimore Maryland by aspiring, and determined entrepreneurs (well The Wire was just an amazing television show).

Now it seems a group of young entrepreneurs from Baltimore are looking to change the way we make and drink coffee with their MoJoe Brewing System.

Joseph Hyman, Alex Wing and Ezekiel Kolajo are the brains and the team behind the new startup that is looking to make the coffee brewing experience so easy that you could do it anywhere. The MoJoe Brewing Company’s flagship product allows you to heat the water and then mix it with the users coffee of choice to create fresh brewed coffee on the spot in the same device. The device heats up the coffee, and keeps it warm, while keeping the coffee cup/thermos cool to the touch.

In today’s world there are so many people that are getting their own imported and gourmet coffee from places like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and gourmet coffee shops, but they never have the time to enjoy that coffee in a typical work day. Instead of brewing their own coffee they opt to pay $2.50-$6.00 for a cup of Joe from the local Starbucks. While that may seem easy enough, it’s costing people lot’s of time, their most precious commodity.

Techfaster reports that the idea came about while Hyman was studying for exams at UMBC during last years extremely hard winter. Hyman didn’t want to take a break from his studying to go back to his dorm to brew a cup and didn’t want to spend $2.50 on something he should be able to make easily. That’s when his wheels started spinning and he took a trip over to the Alex Brown Center for entrepreneurship.

Now, the company has taken to Indiegogo to launch.
For just $89 you can order your own MoJoe in 1 of 4 colors with 20 disposable filters, and 2 reusable filters. Best of all, the Baltimore Startup plans on shipping in time for Christmas, and the dead of the Mid-Atlantic winter.

With MoJoe you’ll be able to save time, money and best of all drink your favorite coffee anywhere and everywhere you go. Like Billy Dee Williams once said about another great Baltimore company “…works every time…”
