Perhaps it was the fact that the startup has to do with beer. Or perhaps it’s that the founders were all taller than Nick Saban. Or perhaps it’s just because they did great and deserved it, but Tuscaloosa Alabama based Brewery Buddy was the only startup in the Alabama Launchpad competition to win part of the pot, that wasn’t from Birmingham.
Brewery Buddy is a web based brewery management platform that helps craft brewers automate their business operations and focus more on making beer.
The company, founded by University of Alabama graduates Josh Sahib and Wes Eldridge took him $24,600 from the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama Foundation. That was part of the $214, 300 total dollars awarded, and in case you missed it above, all of the other teams that won money were from Birmingham according to the Tuscaloosa News.
Brewery Buddy was born out of a Startup Weekend held in Tuscaloosa back in September. From September until now the team has been busy talking with brew masters and translating their needs into features of the Brewery Buddy platform.
The other four finalists were Abel Healthcare Enterprises, In the Sports Zone LLC., Skills For Success LLC and Wires all of them are from Birmingham.
Launch Pad program director Greg Sheek pointed out that the money wasn’t based on any kind of ranking but rather what each startup had budgeted and what each startup needed.
