YouRoam – Think WhatsApp, but with your own number

Right now, there are several different ways to make calls and send messages without using your carrier plan. In fact, Facebook paid more than a billion dollars for one last year – WhatsApp. These are all well and good, but they lack one notable feature. Neither WhatsApp, Skype, Viber, or any other alternative, allow users to use their normal phone number. Well, we had the chance to check out a new startup that does just that: YouRoam.

YouRoam, though indeed sharing some similarities with the other services listed above, is quite unique. While most of these services allow you to make and receive calls, you have to be close to a Wi-Fi signal. With YouRoam, however, you can use your 3G or 4G data connection. Further, as noted above, YouRoam allows you to use your own number for both making and receiving calls.

Continue using your cell phone number, caller ID and your phone all over the world. Receive calls on your own US or Canadian number for just 1 cent/ minute. Recharge through a secure in-app purchase.1
