YouTube Unveils Ultimate Cord Cutting Service

YouTube Announces YouTube TV And You’re Going To Love It

YouTubeTV-top YouTube Unveils Ultimate Cord Cutting Service

At a press event in Los Angeles on Tuesday YouTube unveiled the most substantial thing to shake the tv industry since cable tv. That’s a fitting way to describe it because as YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki took the stage at the event she went through the three significant changes in the television industry.

In Wojcicki’s eyes the three most significant changes in how people consumer content started with cable tv, then online video, and then the smartphone. In 2016 55% of all total mobile traffic came from video. In 2015 the average mobile video subscriber to a service like Netflix or Hulu consumed the equivalent of 3 full length movies on their mobile device. In 2016 that number nearly tripled.

YouTube TV will deliver the four major networks, major sports channels and other cable channels via a subscription model TV service. The service is going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 per month for up to six accounts. That’s perfect for a family of four and two more.

YouTube is also going to offer an unlimited cloud based DVR for users. YouTube TV users will be able to “record” any program for playback later, and as many programs as they would like from Fox, CBS, ABC and CBS. Cable channels that have already committed include ESPN, MSNBC, Fox News, Fox Business, FX, Oxygen, The Disney Channel and National Geographic.

Of course the big benefit to YouTube TV is you will seamlessly be able to use it on any device you want. YouTube will have no storage limits and they said that YouTube TV will not count against mobile data consumption.  This will put them in direct competition with PlayStation Vue and Sling TV. That is except for the fact that YouTube’s user base eclipses both competitors services 50 fold.

YouTube took to their official blog on Tuesday to announce these key features:

  • Live TV streaming from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, regional sports networks and dozens of popular cable networks.
