BLKTCHCLT New Charlotte Event Series Promotes Diversity In Tech

Sherrell Dorsey is the founder of ThePlUG, the first website dedicated to highlighting the voices of black founders, technologists and startups. She also contributes to national publications like FastCompany, Next City and The Root. Through her tech and startup experiences she’s been able to to interview billionaire Steve Case and Shark Tank investor and founder of FUBU, Daymond John.

Dorsey is also committed to helping spur the startup community and tech world in her home base, Charlotte North Carolina. Ever since the Democratic National Convention in 2012, Charlotte’s tech scene has been on fire. Several coworking spaces, incubators, accelerators and startups call the Queen City home. Dorsey has created a series of quarterly events to support diversity in the Charlotte tech community.

The events called #BLKTECHCLT are part networking event, exhibition and interactive experience. The next one will be held Mach 9th at Hygge West Coworking Space (2128 Remount Road).

Top names from the tech and investment community will be on hand to speak at the event and to mingle with founders, developers, software engineers, gamers, business professionals, marketing and communications consultants, graphic designers, web designers, incubator program managers, coworking space owners, and tech enthusiasts.

“The #BLKTECHCLT series is a quarterly curated event that brings together talented founders and professionals in our city. These events are designed to increase what entrepreneurship looks like and provide a supportive environment for founders of color to grow and gain access to our city’s most influential organizations and resources,” Dorsey said at their pilot event this past December at Google Fiber.

The speakers at the event in March include Stefanie Thomas, Impact America Fund; Jenifer Daniels, CEO of ColorStock; Davon Bailey, founder of Eat Work Play; and Walt Frye, mentor/advisor at QC Fintech and Queen City Forward.
